This week, I wasn't able to take any pictures.  It was the craziest week so far this year.  First week of the after school reading program that I am doing, bus duty, Christmas program, and Mr. Miller (our principal) came in to the classroom to watch me teach.  Seriously...craziest week ever.  Even though this week was really busy, it was a ton of fun.  We are starting our Christmas crafts and the kids are having a blast with that.  We are also starting to learn some fun concepts that I LOVE to teach!

English is a hard language to learn, and I am always so impressed with how well they do.
We learned about contractions and r blends/clusters.
Contractions can be a really hard concept to understand.
I just taught them about 's to mean "ownership".
Now they have to understand that it could also mean 2 different words.
You can imagine how difficult that can be to understand.
I was really impressed with how well they were able to pick out the different meaning of 's.
We learned a song to help us remember how to make a contraction.

The song is sung to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb"
"I'm the first word don't change me, don't change me, don't change me.
I'm the first word don't change me, please just let me be.

When you change the second word, second word, second word.
When you change the second word a shorter word you'll see.

Certain letters are taken out, taken out, taken out.
Certain letters are taken out, one word will remain.

Apostrophe will fill that space, fill that space, fill that space.
Apostrophe will fill that space, the rest will stay the same."

They caught onto it quickly and I think it really helped them with making contractions.

We also learned some new things in math.
Adding 0 to a number, subtracting 0 from a number, and we finally got a new coin to learn about and count...DIMES!  They were so excited because counting pennies was just getting too easy :)

Next week we are really going to be getting into the holiday spirit.
I LOVE this time of the year with children!
I tell my students that I am the luckiest teacher in the world because they are in my class.
I am also the luckiest teacher in the world because they have wonderful parents and it is such a blessing to have such amazing parents.
I am truly grateful for everything you do.
Thank you parents for all that you do!
